Gilbey passed away at the age of 40 following an accident at his workplace in Shoebury, Southend-on-Sea.

The tragic incident occurred this morning, resulting in Gilbey’s fall from height and subsequent death.

Gilbey first captured the hearts of UK viewers in 2013, appearing on Gogglebox alongside his mother, Linda McGarry, and step-father, Pete, who passed away three years ago from bowel cancer. The family briefly exited the show when George participated in Celebrity Big Brother in 2014, a move that led to their temporary departure due to breach of show rules. However, they returned to the couch two years later, continuing to entertain and connect with audiences.

Beyond his television career, Gilbey was a devoted father to his daughter, Amelie, born from his relationship with Gemma Conway in 2016. His participation in Celebrity Big Brother’s fourteenth series saw him reaching the final stages of the competition.

The circumstances of his death were confirmed by police, stating Gilbey had been working at a height when he tragically fell around 10 am. Despite a rapid response from ambulance and air ambulance crews, Gilbey succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

Tributes to Gilbey have poured in from across the television community and beyond, highlighting his vibrant personality, warmth, and the indelible mark he left on those who knew him. Channel 4, where Gogglebox airs, remembered him as a significant part of the show’s family. Ricci Guarnaccio, a fellow Celebrity Big Brother contestant said he was profoundly saddened by Gilbey’s passing.
